Causes Behind Acne Scars And Their Treatment Options

By Raymart Chan

Acne is a constant worry, especially for teenage girls, as it sprouts up all of a sudden and its marks stay long after the acne is gone. Notwithstanding your hatred for it, acne can not be avoided by a normal teenager and considerable care is required in order to get rid of these scars and preventing them from appearing again.

When the sebum discharged by skin glands comes in contact with bacteria, it causes an infection, which is known as acne. During the healing process of this condition, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. When the collagen is in excess, there is a protrusion and when its generation is low then it results in tiny craters on the skin. Acne scars develop in both these situations. Adolescents are typically more susceptible to acne infection as their hormones rise all of a sudden at the time of puberty leading to more sebum secretion.

Among the common reasons of acne infection are application of cosmetics that are not appropriate for the kind of skin, taking contraceptive medication, intake of medicinal drugs, and genetic factors. Certain lifestyle factors like stress, unhealthy diet, and living in a polluted locality can also lead to acne. However, contrary to common perception, there is no scientific connection between spicy or fast food and acne.

Notwithstanding the variety of herbal products that claim to cure acne and that are offered to consumers at different stores, it is better to get a doctor's opinion if the condition worsens or if it happens repeatedly. Avoiding pressing the lesion or jabbing it with any sharp object is a must to prevent aggravation of acne.

Many affected people now go for several cosmetic treatments to make the scars disappear and get a glowing skin. Along with surgery and laser treatment that are among the most successful treatments in making acne scars disappear, there are a number of other innovative therapies too. You must talk to a reputed skin doctor or cosmetic surgeon who can assess your skin type and suggest a suitable therapy.
