Landscape tools are very important when it comes to landscaping projects. Landscaping projects can help improve the look of your yard considerably, but there is a good deal of work required. Many tools available can help make these jobs easier, or in some cases, even possible. There are a few basic groups of tools that can help you perform a multitude of task. They are listed below.

The shovel is the first group of tools.

The second tool group is the rake.

The third tool group is the pruner, shear or lopper.

The wheel barrel or garden cart is the fourth group of tools.

The first tool group is the shovel, which is a flattened piece of metal attached to a handle. The main use for a shovel is to move material from place to place. There are many different variations of the shovel. The main types are the rounded or pointed tip shovel. This type digs into material well, and is perfect for digging holes in the ground. The second type is the flat shovel. This one has a wider surface area, and is perfect for scooping from rock or gravel piles. The last shovel is the narrow shovel. These are perfect for digging in tight quarters or for making small holes in the ground.

The second tool group is the rake. There are two main varieties. The bow rake is a thick and sturdy rake, and is used to move heavier items around, such as rocks. The second type is the leaf rake. This has long prongs that flex, pulling leaves along without damaging things under, such as grass.

The third tool group is the pruner, shear or lopper. These cut, trim and clip things to size. Small pruners cut through small, but tough, material. Long grass shears are used to trim materials such as tall grasses or shrubs. Loppers are powerful tools used to cut through thick and tough material such as tree limbs.

The wheel barrel or garden cart is the fourth group of tools. Both of these items are used to transfer large amounts of heavy and/or bulky material around. Garden carts roll on two wheels, which reduce its maneuverability, but increase its stability. Wheel barrels are the opposite, balancing on one wheel and having better maneuverability and less stability.

If you plan to undertake any landscaping project, whether big or small, you will need some tools. The basic tool groups listed and explained above will give you the ability to perform many tasks outside, and successfully complete your project.

What is Chakra

The Hip Joint

The mechanical connection between the legs and the mass of the trunk occurs at the hip joints with their large socket and ball. The hip socket or acetabulum is a deep rounded structure with a rim of cartilage which closely holds the head of the femur, the large ball structure at the top of the thigh bone. As befits a joint where large forces are applied, the hip is stable, deep and has strong stabilising features. To permit fluid movement under considerable bodily loads the hip surfaces are covered with articular cartilage which confers almost friction-free motion under these loads. This is essential to the hip and the thickest cartilage is where the greatest forces are applied.

The capsule of the hip joint, a fibrous bag significantly strengthened all around by the large ligaments of the hip, surrounds the hip from the base of the neck up to the margins of the socket. It is lined by synovial membrane which is responsible for secretion of synovial fluid which feeds and lubricates the joint. For the thigh bone to fit into the pelvic socket effectively to transfer the required loads the upper femur is designed to take an inward angle of 125 degrees from the upright so the ball can enter the socket. This allows the appropriate transmission of locomotive and weight bearing forces through the joint.

Inside the hip the bony anatomy of the supporting struts or trabeculae are also mechanically aligned along the lines of most force, responding to the requirements of bodily motion and bearing weight. The densest areas reinforce the parts suffering the highest stresses. If the hip copes with these stresses by developing strengthened areas it also has areas of less strength which can become relevant in older people as they fall and suffer fractured necks of femur across these areas. As the number of older people dying after this fracture is relatively high, this matter is of concern.

The hip is designed to perform locomotion of the body and to stand and manage the body weight through the legs. To perform these actions the hip joints have very strong muscles to stabilise them and move them and the body in some cases quickly and with force. The hip abductors, adductors and gluteal muscles are all major stabilisers and movers of the joint. The abductors play a large part in the sideways stability of the pelvis and the gluteals, the body's most powerful muscles, move the body weight around.

The articular surfaces of the hip are subject to very high mechanical forces, much greater than the body weight in activities such as running, jumping and climbing stairs. To cope with this the articular cartilage is thick on the most exposed areas, although the nutritional supply to cartilage mostly relies on synovial fluid and some from the underlying bone. New cartilage is slowly formed from below as some is worn off at the top by activity, and the balance between these two actions is critical to the health of the joint.

The hip capsule is lined by the synovial membrane which secretes small quantities of fluid into the joint. Even though the amount of fluid is not great it is thought to act mechanically to disperse loads within the joint, to lubricate the joints movements and to aid absorption of wear particles so that a kind of "sandpaper" does not collect in the joint and contribute to wear. If the joints have to work hard, the cyclical pressure and release in the joint stimulates the membrane to secrete more fluid to meet the requirements.

Any disturbance in the available movements of the hip will have consequences on its most important function, gait. An even stride length and balanced gait pattern is essential for normal daily function and to the health of the hip joints themselves. We have a typical and restricted pattern of joint movement when we walk but the movement which often becomes limited first is extension, the ability to take the leg behind as the other leg strides forward. At around 20 degrees there is much less hip extension that hip flexion, the ability to take the thigh towards the chest, which is about 130 degrees.

1. Don't buy skin care and anti aging products with fragrances. Now we all like to smell good, and the big companies know that so use fragrances. Look younger and smell good at the same time.

And secondly, fragrances are chemicals and not good to put on your skin. Same with perfumes, but with a perfume you just put a little dab here and there, with a skin care cream you apply it to a much wider area.

2. Don't buy anti aging skin care creams with collagen in them. Now we all know that as we age our skin loses collagen, so surely we need collagen replaced to combat the sagging and wrinkling and lines that come with skin aging?

Not necessarily. Yes it's good to replenish the collagen, however collagen molecules are quite large and don't really enter the skin. So rubbing it on might make you feel good, but doesn't really add to the levels of collagen in your skin.

The only way to increase the levels of collagen in our skin is to stimulate the skin to make more collagen itself.

So if putting the collagen in the bottle does nothing why is it in the bottle and why are those big name celebrities on TV telling you how well it works? Because they know there's lots of money to be made. That having collagen in the bottles sells lots of bottles.

So it may not do much, and it may have dangerous chemicals in it like fragrances, but it still sells like hot cakes.

That's marketing for you.

Problem is, all this marketing is expensive. The good looking celebrity has to be paid, usually lots, the fancy bottles need to be purchased, and the advertising costs a bomb.

So the anti aging skin care treatment that really doesn't do much costs a bomb too. But that's ok because people believe that if it's expensive it must be good. So they pay anyway.

As more and more people are confronted with the health risks of processed foods and the energy drain of trucking foods into our areas, they are turning to gardening and growing their own food. Others are content to eat as much local food as they can find and just fill in the gaps with shipped in foods.

Another challenge that a lot of people find themselves facing is space. Most of us do not start off in houses with great big yards that allow us to put in a large garden or greenhouse. It's interesting to watch how the younger generation is acting today much like the older generation that went through the depression. Both seem to be much more aware and willing to change to do their part and change the world.

People have been growing their own food for generations so little is really that new though the technology and tools make it easier. Integrating cedar raised beds into an organic growing plan is great but it will never replace the gardener. It needs you to succeed.

Living inside an urban city is tough since you don't have hardly any space outside to work with. However, one of the things you can do if your balcony or deck can support the weight is use a raised bed to grow your own food. You will want to use a light soil that you should be able to purchase at your local nursery or hardware store.

Since your plants will not grow well without the sun, make sure you place your raised garden bed where there is as much sun as possible. There are some options for covering the plants that range from using plastic of some kind to cold frames and small portable greenhouses. You will need to make the best choice for your situation. Just know that you will need to cover plants once the temperature dips below 45 degrees.

Another consideration during the colder months will be heat. Your plants will need to be kept above that 40 degree mark if at all possible. You can also heat up and pot of water and simply place it within the enclosure as the heat will radiate all night long.

Though you may think this is way harder than you want to tackle, the fact is, it takes real effort to grow your own food on a year round basis and not everyone will succeed. These are called accessory movements and their presence is vital to joint function, a reduction in available range or a pain problem resulting if they are lost or reduced. The hip is a deep joint with significant stability so the accessory movements are rather subtle, with the main one being compression and distraction, the pushing in to and pulling out of the ball from the socket.

The health and well-being of the articular cartilage are related to the repeated cycles of compression and relaxation applied to the joint such as with weight bearing and walking. The cartilage is pressed downwards to a degree when pressure is applied and this indentation returns to normal once the pressure is relieved. This engages a fluid pumping system where it is squashed out of the cartilage under compression and pulled back in on relief of the pressure. This pumping of fluid from the deeper cartilage and underlying bone keeps the surface healthy.

When the joints experience normal mechanical stresses they respond with the synthesis of new cartilage, with the cyclical stresses with rest periods important to cope with the levels of force involved just in heel strike in gait. Encouraging growth of cartilage may be possible by using the joints in big movements through their ranges but it may reduce cartilage growth if stresses are removed or it is subjected to static loads over time. These static loads when kept up, using a stick to reduce hip forces and having high bodyweight may all contribute.

Resting a joint when it is painful is not a clearly positive strategy. Pain may be reduced when resting but the mechanisms which encourage regrowth of cartilage are not stimulated and the joint capsule may stiffen and reduce the available range of movement at the joint. Whilst painful joints do need respect, in general arthritic joints are worse being still and better being kept moving about. Keeping the full ranges of movement available is beneficial to hips as is pushing them as far as they will go from time to time. In the east many people squat, even for ironing, and may have lower incidence of hip arthritis than western populations.

If the ranges of movement are not routinely used the capsule of the joint will tend to tighten to a degree, increasing the forces which compress the head into the socket. A discrepancy in the length of leg can have a subtle effect on the hip range of movement, particularly of extension. When standing the longer leg will tend to shorten itself slightly to compensate for its length and keep the head and eyes at a normal angle. This means it is held forward by a slight flexion of the hip and knee and so some of the range of hip extension is lost as a hip flexion contracture develops.

John Grinder - A Brief Biographical History

John Grinder served as a captain in the US Army Special Forces, then later for the US Intelligence agency. Before this, in the late 1960's, he graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of San Francisco and a PhD from the University of California in San Diego in Linguistics in the early 1970's. He went on to co-found Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with Dr. Richard Bandler.

John Grinder is a specialist in the area of syntax in the broader field of linguistics. He has published many works, On Deletion Phenomena in English (1972) and Guide to Transformational Grammar (1973) being two of the most exceptional works. John was later appointed as a professor of Linguistics at the University of San Francisco in Santa Cruz.

After being invited to participate in therapy groups with psychology student Richard Bandler, John became aware of linguistic patterns used by the therapists. John went on to co-found Neuro Linguistic Programming with Bandler.

The language patterns used by therapists such as Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton H. Erickson, who was a hypnotherapist, was used along with transformational grammar as the basis for John Grinder and Richard Bandler to come up with their own model called Neuro Linguistic Programming.

John has also co-written many other pieces about the theoretical basis and practical uses of NLP. This was after developing the model of Neuro Linguistic Programming further, partly based on the publications of the therapists above.

The self confidence gained by practitioners of NLP has enabled many to become more successful in both their personal and professional lives. Scientists have discovered a previously unknown link between a mother's diet in pregnancy and a severe form of liver disease in her child.

In a study, published in the journal Hepatology, researchers at the University of Southampton found that a high fat diet during a woman's pregnancy makes her offspring more likely to develop a severe form of fatty liver disease when they reach adulthood. The findings are another piece in the jigsaw for scientists who believe diets containing too high levels of saturated fat may have an adverse effect on our health.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition associated with obesity and caused by the build up of fat in the liver. The condition advances in some people and it is important to understand the factors that contribute to disease progression. Until recently, NAFLD was considered rare and relatively harmless but now it is one of the most common forms of liver disease that may progress to cirrhosis a serious life threatening chronic liver disease.

Professor Christopher Byrne, with colleagues Dr Felino Cagampang and Dr Kim Bruce, of the University's School of Medicine and researchers at King's College London, conducted the study, funded by the BBSRC. Prof Byrne explained: "This research shows that too much saturated fat in a mother's diet can affect the developing liver of a fetus, making it more susceptible to developing fatty liver disease later in life. An unhealthy saturated fat-enriched diet in the child and young adult compounds the problem further causing a severe form of the fatty liver disease later in adult life."

The next stage of this research, also funded by the BBSRC, will be to understand, more precisely, the reason why fatty liver disease develops and to intervene to prevent the fatty liver disease occurring.

The University's School of Medicine has a worldwide reputation for its pioneering research into the relationship between mothers' diets in pregnancy and future health problems in their offspring.
