Ways to Lower Your Blood Pressure

By Steve Brodie

The correlation between excess weight and high blood pressure is commonly known, losing some extra weight will not only help reduce you blood pressure but will also increase your overall health and improve the efficacy of blood pressure medication. Studies have shown that losing even as little as four kilos can help reduce the blood pressure of hypertensive patients who are overweight.

Controlling your weight is a crucial point if you want to lower your blood pressure naturally. Losing those extra kilos can really be beneficial, you'll be more active and healthy and your lowered blood pressure will reduce the associated risks of heart attack and stroke.

Getting back control of your life may be as simple as losing weight for mild high blood pressure sufferers. For those with more severe hypertension loosing weight may mean reducing the amount of medication needed or be a first step in a combination of factors that can see you off the medications all together. There are two things that matter about losing weight: how much you lose and where the weight is sitting.

Small amounts of weight reduction has been proven to cause significantly lower blood pressure in overweight sufferers. Weight loss as little as four kilos can make a huge difference in the lives of blood pressure patients. Weight loss can mean you can take less of your medications, as well as reducing associated risks like cardiovascular disease. Hypertensive patients who are overweight should consult their doctor to find their target weight for the maximum benefits for their health.

It is also important where the body stores your excess fats. Where the weight goes is usually inherited by your parents, like hair and eye colour. Men tend to be Apple shaped with weight stored on the belly while women are more often Pear shaped with weight on thighs and hips. Sadly for the guys the apple shape is more conducive to high blood pressure and other risks like heart attack " that being said excess weight anywhere on the body needs to be shed for healthy living.

Do not try and lose a lot of weight fast " this usually requires a too-drastic change in your diet and will be unsustainable in the long run. If you aim to lose half or a quarter of a kilo each week with small changes in your daily routine then this is sustainable " try eating baked or steamed foods in place of fried, or an apple instead of those sweet biscuits and make sure you go for a brisk walk once or twice a day, even for just fifteen minutes. It may seem small, but for starting it is far more sustainable than going on a crash diet of cabbage soup or something.

Weight loss can be the road to a healthy happy you " there are more benefits than just those of lowering blood pressure. By slowly introducing more whole foods and fresh foods you will feel energised and full of vitality.

Weight loss can make you more physically active, which will in turn further decrease your blood pressure and give more energy to your life. Moderate level exercise improves your blood flow and leads to a slower standing heart rate, which will lower your blood pressure. losing more weight means you can become more active, becoming more active means you can lose even more weight! Remember you can beat high blood pressure naturally, so kick start your new life by loosing a couple of kilos and feel the difference.
