The Importance Of Flowers

By Florian Coleman

The message conveyed by flowers is understood by everyone. In different places of the world, flowers are used to express human emotions like joy, grief, caring and apology. They provide an easy and elegant way of conveying emotions when words fail us. However, different flowers convey different meanings. Each one has a different message and you need to understand what it means before you give it to someone.

The practise of giving meanings to flowers is known as floriography. The event and the intended message assume prime importance in the Western culture when people think about gifting flowers to others.

Red roses are accepted messengers of love and passion, whereas, white roses denote purity and pink ones denote lasting friendship. You can make amends with an estranged friend with a bunch of white tulips, which stand for forgiveness. Lilies are elegant and sophisticated and they communicate royalty and festivity. Your sick friend will like a 'get well soon' card with a bouquet of Yarrow, while for a friend who is beginning a new venture a bouquet of Azalea will communicate your wish for his success. Flowers can have negative connotations as well. A case in point is a bouquet of lavender blossoms, which normally shows lack of faith.

There are specially many flowers for lovers to select from, each conveying a unique mood or feeling. Different romantic feelings can be expressed by a number of flowers such as yellow Chrysanthemums and Apple Blossoms.

There is one more thing that you must always check before you give flowers to someone. A lot of different meanings have been allocated by various traditions to different flowers. If your friend comes from a various culture, you should gift flowers in accordance, knowing what the flower you are giving symbolises in that specific culture, so that you give the symbolically suitable gift. This is important as you would surely not like your gift to prompt an entirely different reaction from the person.
