Indoor Hydroponic Gardening: An Easy Way To Get Fresh Vegetables Year-Round

By Sarah Duke

The Latin word "water working" is the meaning of hydroponics. This art of growing plants is utilized in a flow of water filled with oxygen or in a bath. The water has been filled with nutrients. Indoor hydroponic gardening is a fun and easy way to grow plants and vegetables. This type of system does not need chemicals or insecticides.

When organic matter breaks down and decomposes it distributes nutrient salts into the soil. Rain water dissolves these salts and it is taken up into the roots. Hydroponics uses water that is enriched with nutrients. The nutrient solution is contained and is not harmful to the environment. This science shows that plants can be grown successfully in another medium besides soil.

When making a system, the plants must be supported by a medium. The medium must be a fiber, stone or sand. No soil is used. The support acts like an anchor for the roots. Disease is not present since soil is not used. There are many different systems on the market that can be purchased. Some systems can be made at home for little to no cost. It depends on what the gardener imagines.

Benefits abound when a person is using hydroponic gardening. There is less work and it is enjoyable. It is easy. There are no weeds to contend with or no rototiller to hurt your back. A garden can be set up inside in a small area. Studies reveal that produce grown hydroponically is nutritionally superior to those grown in soil. It also tastes better.

Hydroponic gardening is well suited for plant varieties that are considered fruit bearing. Some examples of these plants are tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuces, leafy greens, herbs and flowers. When these types of plants are grown indoors, they can be grown all year long.

Hydroponic gardening is a cost effective way to grow healthy vegetables for your household. The vegetables can be grown pesticide free. They are grown indoors and without soil so there are no pests to deal with. When grown in soil, a plant needs a large root system. A hydroponic system does not require that as it gets all of its nutrients from the water.

Gardening hydroponically is an economical way to grow pesticide free vegetables indoors. These plants can be grown year-round. Systems are not expensive to operate. The gardener does not have to contend with weeds or pests. Hydroponic gardening is fun and easy.
