Causes Of Female Hair Loss

Female hair loss can be an embarrassing problem. Most people do not like to talk about it and are embarrassed to even mention it with their physician. However, about twenty percent of women suffer some type of hair loss. Hair loss affects a women's appearance which in turn can negatively affect her self esteem.

Signs that a women may be suffering from this very issue are possible thinning of hair all over her head or even it can occur in one spot. If there is a significant loss of hair near the crown or hairline, it can be a red flag that this may be occurring.

If there is significant hair loss at the crown or hairline, then that can be a sign that there is a problem. Female pattern balding is a condition in which there is permanent and severe thinning of the hair. This condition rarely leads to complete baldness but it does present itself as balding near the crown or thinning over the entire head.

There are various causes of female hair loss. Hormones are the number one factor in hair loss. Many women lose a significant amount of hair after pregnancy, menopause or times of severe distress. These times cause a major flux of hormones that seems to trigger the hair loss. There are many other reasons for the problem such as thyroid, liver or pituitary gland issues. Anemia, a vitamin or mineral deficiency or allergies can even cause the problem. Side effects of medications can sometimes lead to hair loss. It has been found that lead or mercury poisoning can cause one to lose their hair. One of the side effects from a recent Hepatitis B vaccination can be hair loss.

There are many other causes of hair loss. Some of these causes could be linked to a vitamin or mineral deficiency, allergies or anemia. Also thyroid, liver or pituitary gland problems have caused this issue. Hair loss is a symptom of lead or mercury poisoning.

Hair loss is an embarrassing problem that sometimes can be prevented. Talking to a physician is the number one tip to try to solve the mystery of why it is occurring. Some causes can be prevented by just maintaining a healthy lifestyle or change in medication.
