Rogaine / Regaine For Hair Loss And How It Really Works

By Mike Jones

Note: Rogaine and Regaine refer to the same product. The brand name Rogaine is used in the United States and Canada while the brand name Regaine is used in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

This is one of the only products available today that has been approved by the FDA for treatment of hair loss. It has consistently performed well in clinical studies and could be the product you are looking for to restore your hair.

The product contains an active ingredient called Minoxidil. This drug was originally marketed in the 1980s as a high blood pressure treatment. However, some patients began to notice a strange side effect: hair growth. Some users of the drug were experiencing hair growth on their hands, cheeks and forehead, which caused scientists to withdraw the tablet form from sale and begin working on using it as a topical treatment for hair loss. The results were outstanding and the lotion was brought to the shelves under the brand names above.

Rogaine / Regaine works in around 85 per cent of users with twice a day application. It is not an overnight treatment and requires continued use to be effective. If treatment is stopped then the results will diminish over the following three to six months.

Since Minoxidil is a vasodilator, it is thought that it causes hair growth by improving the flow of blood to the scalp. It works by stimulating the hair growth cycle. In the case of hair thinning the hair follicles have usually been reduced over time and produce thinner hairs: so the product helps to stimulate and prolong the hair growth cycle. Recent studies have shown that it also works by activating PGHS 1 (prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase-1) which helps restore hair growth in hair loss patients. Most patients report increased downy hair growth and reduced hair loss or shedding after 90 days of treatment.

The product is now available as male and female treatments and also comes in two strengths of 2% and 5%. Usually patients can see results within 90 days of beginning treatment. There are very few side effects: only some mild scalp irritation and itching may be noticed.

If you begin using the product as soon as you notice hair loss, then you will experience better results than if you leave treatment until the problem is very noticeable. It sometimes works better on younger patients or when hair is thinning rather than pronounced bald spots. If your bald spot is less than 10cm wide you are more likely to experience good results.

Rogaine / Regaine has been proven to work through several scientific studies and millions of happy customers around the world. It is the only non prescription hair loss treatment that has been approved by the FDA. Try it, and you have everything to gain.
